China Medical Check for Foreigners: Where Shanghai Names the Health Exam Centre and What Beijing Says

Shanghai

The centre named by the Shanghai pages

The Shanghai Municipal Government English portal answers the question "Where do I get the health check done?" in its FAQ. The answer names the Shanghai International Travel Healthcare Center. It says the centre is officially designated by the health administration for individuals crossing the Chinese border in Shanghai. The FAQ page is dated January 12, 2024.

The FAQ gives the address as the ground floor of Building 1, No 15 Jinbang Road, Changning District.

Who goes there, according to the Shanghai guide

A separate Shanghai guide to the health check is dated August 30, 2024, and its footer says it was updated July 14, 2026. The guide says anyone planning to live, work or study in Shanghai for a year or more needs to complete a health check at the International Travel Healthcare Center. It says the step is crucial for applying for residence and employment permits.

Hours

The Shanghai guide says health checks are available from 8 am to 11 am, Monday to Friday. It says additional sessions may be offered on Monday through Thursday afternoons and on Saturdays, depending on demand.

Booking channels

The Shanghai guide says an appointment must be booked at least two weeks in advance. It says to search for the WeChat official account "上海国际旅行卫生保健中心" and tap "预约 Booking" under "Services".

A third Shanghai page, updated July 14, 2026, says visitors who do not yet have access to WeChat can write to the customs office at shbjzx@customs.gov.cn to make an appointment. It gives a service hotline of 021-6268-8851.

After the exam

The Shanghai guide says the health certificate can be picked up in person three working days after the health check, or delivered by courier after an application made in person following the check.

Beijing

The Beijing Municipal Government English portal carries a guide to the health entrance examination. The page carries the date 2022-12-16.

The guide gives the hours of local health centres in Beijing.

The guide says physical examinations run from Monday to Friday, excepting national statutory holidays, from 08:00 to 11:00. It gives verification hours of 08:00 to 11:30 and 13:30 to 17:00 on the same days. It says that if the hours differ, the actual processing hours of local health centres prevail.

The guide says personnel entering China must complete the health management procedures by themselves within 15 days after entry so as not to affect the subsequent employment and residence procedures.

Other cities

The Shanghai page on residence permits says health certificates issued by international travel healthcare centres in other provinces and cities in China are also accepted.
